Mornings

Coffee on the veranda before the heat finds you.

The kettle's on by 6:30. By 7 the trade winds are coming up the garden path and the geckos are pretending not to watch.

Five minutes that way

The lagoon is warm, shallow, and yours.

You can wade out a hundred meters before the water reaches your shoulders. Snorkels in the cupboard, paddle-board on the wall.

Out the back door

The pool's yours all week.

It's in the garden, palms overhead. Right outside — no walk, no drive.

Built for slow days

Three bedrooms. One kitchen. No agenda.

Big enough for a family of six, small enough that nobody is far away. Pool, outdoor shower, and a barbecue that gets used.

Aerial view of the property — lagoon in the background, five minutes' walk away
From above: that's our place, and that's the lagoon five minutes' walk behind it.

Our Philosophy

A holiday home, not a hotel.

Coconut Palm Retreat is a family-run holiday home with deep roots in Mauritius. Tucked away in Flic-en-Flac on the west coast, it's the place we built with the same care we'd want for our own family on holiday.

We hand over the keys, share a few favorite spots, and leave you to it. No reception desk, no minibar — just the place we'd want to come back to.

We don't just provide a place to stay; we create the space for your best memories to happen.

Welcome home.

Questions

Everything people ask before they book.

Where is Coconut Palm Retreat located in Mauritius?

Coconut Palm Retreat is in Flic-en-Flac, a beach village on the west coast of Mauritius, in the Black River District. It is about a 5 minute walk from Flic-en-Flac beach and its lagoon, roughly 45 minutes by car from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and about 30 minutes from the capital, Port Louis.

How many people can stay at Coconut Palm Retreat?

Coconut Palm Retreat sleeps up to 6 guests across 3 bedrooms: one with a king bed, one with a queen bed, and one with a small double. The maximum is 5 adults, or 4 adults plus 2 children. It suits one family, two couples travelling together, or a small group of friends.

How much does it cost to stay at Coconut Palm Retreat?

Rates depend only on how many adults are staying, not on the season. 1-2 adults: EUR 80 per night; 3 adults: EUR 90 per night; 4 adults: EUR 100 per night; 5 adults: EUR 110 per night. Children aged 3 to 12 are EUR 5 per night each. A one-time final cleaning fee of EUR 20 is added. Mauritian government tourism tax of EUR 3 per person per night is settled on arrival and is not included in the nightly rate. The minimum stay is 3 nights.

Does Coconut Palm Retreat have a swimming pool?

Yes. There is a swimming pool in the garden, directly outside the apartment, with palm trees overhead. There is also a BBQ grill, a garden, and an outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach.

How far is the beach from Coconut Palm Retreat?

Flic-en-Flac beach is about a 5 minute walk, roughly 400 metres, with no road crossing that requires a car. The lagoon there is shallow and calm: you can wade out around 100 metres before the water reaches your shoulders, which makes it comfortable for children and weak swimmers. Snorkels and a paddle-board are provided in the apartment.

Is Flic-en-Flac a good place to stay in Mauritius?

Flic-en-Flac has the longest stretch of public beach in Mauritius and a calm reef-protected lagoon, so it is a common choice for families and first-time visitors. It sits on the west coast, which is the driest and sunniest side of the island, and it has supermarkets, restaurants, dive centres and bus routes within the village. Sunsets face the sea. Le Morne, Black River Gorges National Park and Tamarin are all within a 20 to 40 minute drive.

Can I book Coconut Palm Retreat directly instead of through Booking.com or Airbnb?

Yes. Booking directly at coconut-palm-retreat.com gives the lowest price because there is no platform commission, and it is confirmed instantly with payment handled by Stripe. The same property is also listed on Booking.com and Airbnb for guests who prefer a platform's checkout and support. The owners answer direct enquiries themselves.

What is the cancellation policy at Coconut Palm Retreat?

Direct bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 30 days before check-in, with a full refund. After that point the booking is non-refundable. Bookings made through Booking.com or Airbnb follow that platform's own cancellation policy instead.

What amenities are included at Coconut Palm Retreat?

Air conditioning in the bedrooms, mosquito nets, a smart TV, a fully equipped open-plan kitchen with fridge, freezer, coffee machine, microwave and toaster, a washing machine, fast WiFi, free on-site parking, a swimming pool, BBQ grill, garden and outdoor shower. The property has solar panels, an in-apartment safe, CCTV in the common areas and an on-site security guard.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is by 10:00. This is a self-check-in holiday home rather than a hotel: the owners hand over the keys in person, point out a few favourite local spots, and then leave guests to it. There is no reception desk.

Is Coconut Palm Retreat suitable for families with children?

Yes. It takes 4 adults plus 2 children, has 3 bedrooms so children can have their own room, a shallow calm lagoon 5 minutes' walk away, a garden and pool, a full kitchen for cooking for fussy eaters, a washing machine, and mosquito nets. Note that the pool is not fenced, so young children need supervision.

What languages do the hosts speak?

The hosts speak English, French and German, and the website is available in all three. Mauritius is broadly trilingual in English, French and Mauritian Creole, so English and French are widely understood across the island.

Do I need to rent a car to stay in Flic-en-Flac?

Not for the beach, restaurants or supermarkets, which are all within walking distance of Coconut Palm Retreat. A car is worth having for day trips: Le Morne, Chamarel, Black River Gorges and the east coast are much easier to reach by road. Free parking is available at the property. Buses and taxis also serve Flic-en-Flac.

When is the best time of year to visit Mauritius?

May to December is the drier, cooler and most popular window, with September to November often considered ideal. January to March is hot and humid and falls in the cyclone season. The west coast around Flic-en-Flac is the driest part of the island year-round, and sea temperatures stay swimmable in every month. Coconut Palm Retreat charges the same rate all year, so there is no high-season premium.
